The Atmospheric Sciences Program hosted by the Dept. of Geography here at The Ohio State University now offers students the ability to interact with 2 Red Hat Enterprise Linux workstations running the Unidata AWIPS II Standalone EDEX Data Server and CAVE Client. AWIPS II is a weather forecasting display and analysis package being developed by the National Weather Service and Raytheon. AWIPS II is a Java application, and incorporates open source technologies such as Apache Qpid, Postgres and PyPIES.
This presents a great opportunity for students with aspirations of working for the National Weather Service to gain experience with the tools used in all NWS Offices across the country.
