Kevin Inks is a third-year Geography and Economics double major, he is from Powell, OH, and is interested in the political, social, and spatial dimensions of water resources in the developing world.

Kevin is doing research on the agricultural effects of damming in the Brahmaputra River Valley in Northeast India. This region of India, which is geographically, linguistically, and culturally distinct from the rest of India, is deeply agricultural and reliant on ahu rice and tea cultivation. The many rivers that cut through the region hold the vast plurality of India’s untapped hydroelectric power, and the Modi administration has begun to build the country’s largest dams in order to exploit that potential with little or no assessment of their environmental impact. Kevin’s research will address the social, economic, and environmental consequences of damming on agricultural communities in the region. He hopes to build land use cover change and econometric models using collected data, and to have these models act as a resource for activists and community leaders in Northeast India.

Geography Associate Professor Kendra McSweeney is Kevin’s advisor.
