Orange ohio sunrise due to canadian wild fire smoke in atm

Sunrise from this morning. You may have noticed a more orange Ohio sunset and sunrise the last days, this is due to smoke in the atmosphere from Canadian wildfires.

Faculty News: 

Max D. Woodworth recently received the AAG's Anne U. White Fund award, which will provide funds to support travel for fieldwork in Japan once Covid restrictions are lifted.
Max also recently had a paper accepted to China Perspectives titled "Ruins, ruination, and fieldwork photography."

Student News: 

Zhiying Li defended her PhD dissertation, “Dominant Drivers of Hydrological Change and Prediction of Future Streamflow in the Contiguous United States.” Her committee members included Desheng Liu, Bryan Mark, Alvaro Montenegro, and Steven Quiring as advisor. Zhiying has accepted a post-doctoral position at Dartmouth College that starts in September.

Sohyun Park successfully defended her PhD dissertation, titled “Nationalized Seed and Globalized Land: Analysis on the Emerging Intensive Horticulture in the Korean Strawberry Industry.” Her committee consisted of Becky Mansfield, Max Woodworth, Ningchuan Xiao and Darla Munroe as advisor. Sohyun will stay at OSU next year as Lecturer and Researcher in the department.

Josh Steiner successfully defended his MS (Atmospheric Sciences) thesis, “A Regional Comparison of Bomb Cyclones in the Central Plains and Western Atlantic.” Josh will be continuing his graduate studies at OSU in Fall when he starts his PhD. His committee included Alvaro Montenegro and Zhengyu Liu, with Steven Quiring as advisor.
