Graduate Curriculum: Environment and Society

The Environment and Society track offers graduate students the opportunity to earn a Master's degree and/or a Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Geography. Requirements for each student in the track are outlined below. Please be aware that requirements are subject to change. Graduate students also should consult their advisor and the Department of Geography Graduate Handbook to ensure the appropriate requirements are met. In addition to the requirements, the seminar titles are subject to change. However, the assigned course number will remain the same.

General Admission Requirements

Students admitted to Environment & Society track should fulfill the following general requirements:
A Bachelor's Degree in Geography or a closely allied field is required for entrance into the Master's program. Additionally, a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree are needed for entrance into the PhD program. Master's Degree (M.A.)

The attached Graduate handbook, reveals course requirements for students in the Environment & Society track. Also, below is a sample curriculum for our students to potentially follow.

Doctorate (Ph.D.)

The attached Graduate handbook, has general advising for Post-Master's students in the Department of Geography. Current Graduate Students should work with their advisor on forming a curriculum that satisfies the degree requirements, while meeting their individual needs. Students should have all of their coursework completed by the end of their second year and spend the remaining two years working on their dissertation.
