Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

“Space and Place in Counternarcotics Operations in the Transit Zone”

Kendra McSweeney’s current project seeks to understand how cocaine interdiction operates in the 7 million square mile area of the Caribbean, Central America, and the eastern Pacific—an area known to counterdrug forces as the ‘cocaine transit zone.’ Last year, the US and ‘partner’ nations intercepted only 6% of the cocaine known to be moving through this area.

The Mershon Center welcomes faculty, students, and guests to participate and discuss the geographical and strategic imaginaries that interdiction relies on, and the highly spatialized dynamics by which drugs are intercepted. Or, aren’t.

This event is part of the Mershon Center's First Friday series focusing on current projects of Mershon Center faculty. The event will be a facilitated conversation intended to foster an open interdisciplinary discussion on international, national, and human security. Lunch will be provided.
