Talk Title: How to Make a Tornado: Ideas Emerging from Decades of Theory, Simulation and Field Observations
Abstract: This talk will examine the mechanisms of tornado formation within atmospheric convection, particularly super-cell thunderstorms, which are responsible for virtually all strong tornadoes. Drawing from over a half-century’s worth of observations, theory, and computer simulations, this talk will discuss directions for future research. No prior knowledge of meteorology is required.
