Talk title: Mind the Temperatures: The challenge of estimating present and future heat exposure on the London Tube

Abstract: Unlike many other major cities worldwide, London's public transport system largely lacks air conditioning. This is true of deep tube trains and stations, as well as buses. As the UK’s climate changes, we are already experiencing increases in temperatures and number of hot days and this trend is expected to continue in the future, posing growing heat exposure risks to passengers. Focusing on the Tube, this research integrates historical and projected climate data, public transport operation data from TfL, and synthetic population data to estimate heat exposure across different lines, journeys, and traveler characteristics.
