Topic: What is driving the rapid drying and warming over the amazon in recent decades?
Abstract: Most previous studies have attributed the robust drying and surface warming observed over the Amazon in recent decades to sea surface temperature anomalies in the tropical Pacific and/or Atlantic, as well as to land-use changes. Our recent studies suggest that the rapid increases in extreme dry, warm, and windy conditions are primarily driven by an intensification of the Hadley circulation in response to anthropogenic forcing.
