Our student Rachel Beery (a National Geographic Intern) is reporting back on some excellent experience and fun activities in DC. This includes a scramble to locate and map species in US National Parks. This is called the National BioBlitz that happened last weekend. Read about it here:
Kudos to Joel Wainwright for his detailed research and carefully written paper which just appeared in the Annals. Check your latest copy in print. The piece draws attention to some differential reactions between anthropology and geography to the militarization of disciplinary skill sets. It also advocates for a more careful and considered reaction by the AAG on the resultant.
Max Woodworth (along with his collaborator Dr. Shiuh-Shen Chien) was awarded a research grant from the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange. The project title is "Modular Urbanism: Policy Isomorphism and Spatial-Temporal Irregularity in Contemporary China." Max will be teaching a related course in Spring 2017 on Chinese urbanization.
Seth Warthen successfully passed his MA exam this week. Seth's thesis is entitled: "Recreating the Late Ordovician Glaciation using the University of Victoria Earth System model". His committee was formed by Bryan Mark and Alvaro Montenegro (advisor). Congratulations Seth!
On the national scale, a former OSU Administrator, Nancy L. Zimpher, currently Chancellor of the SUNY system, has announced her intention to step down in 2017. She has been credited with elevating the State University of New York, the nation’s largest public university system. Dr. Zimpher is well known for her advocacy on behalf of urban issues and has many fans here at OSU for her inspirational leadership.
