Chris Birchfield awarded at the NWA's Annual Meeting:

chris birchfield

Kudos are due to one of our many accomplished undergraduates, Chris Birchfield.
Chris is a fifth year Atmospheric Sciences major and President of the Central Ohio Chapter of the National Weather Association. Earlier this month he presented at the Undergraduate Student Poster Presentation Competition at the National Weather Association's Annual Meeting in Charleston, South Carolina, and brought home 2nd place! The research he did focused on winter weather at the Baltimore/Washington National Weather Service office, where he had an internship this past summer. The title of his poster was "Evaluation of Probabilistic Snowfall Amount Forecasts for Decision Support in the Mid-Atlantic Region". It was co-authored by staff members at the NWS office, Ken Widelski and Steve Zubrick. Chris examined various winter probabilistic guidance products during several key winter events in the Mid-Atlantic region. Chris's research also helped frame the NWS office's new suite of winter probabilistic products being rolled out this winter (FY14) as part of the office's pilot project on providing better winter decision support to key customers. Congratulations, Chris! Keep up the good work.
