Congratulations Kendra McSweeney, elected in to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences

OSU Geography Faculty member Kendra McSweeney

We are very excited—and proud—to announce that our very own Kendra McSweeney has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences! Kendra’s election to the AAA&S is in recognition of the significant impact she is having with her scholarship within—and beyond—the academy.

For those of you who might not know, the AAA&S is one of the oldest learned societies in the country. It was founded in 1780, by the Massachusetts legislature, “to cultivate every art and science which may tend to advance the interest, honor, dignity, and happiness of a free, independent, and virtuous people.” Membership in the AAA&S is the result of a rigorous process of petition, review, and election.

Kendra will be joining a very impressive list of Academy Fellows in the ‘Sociology, Demography, and Geography’ section, including Kwame Anthony Appiah, Rogers Brubaker, Judith Carney, Patricia Hill Collins, Anthony Giddens, Ruthie Gilmore, Michael Goodchild, Jurgen Habermas, Katherine McKittrick, James Marshall Shepherd, and Diana Liverman, among other luminaries.

You can see the full list of newly elected members HERE, Class 3 under Section 6 – Sociology, Demography, and Geography

Congratulations, Kendra! This is a superbly well-earned distinction.
