Professor Steven Quiring founded StormImpact, an Ohio State University-based startup, in 2022 with co-founders Dr. Brent McRoberts (formerly a Senior Researcher in the Department of Geography at Ohio State) and Mr. Scott Hull (formerly an undergrad student at Ohio State). StormImpact integrates weather science, data analysis, and machine learning to help power companies better manage power outages, disturbances, and repairs due to storms.
Steven attributes part of his success with StormImpact to Ohio State’s Technology Commercialization Office. “This company definitely owes its start to Ohio State. The research and support staff here and the people that I got to work with made the magic happen. We produced a product that was something that the utilities valued and that we realized we could grow and expand to serve a lot more utilities and other sectors of the economy.”
