A World Divided? Space, Place, and Regions in World Affairs Field Trip

Students in GEOG 3650 at Shawnee Historic District

On April 10, 2026, the class “A World Divided? Space, Place, and Regions in World Affairs”  (GEOG/INTSTDS 3650) went on a field trip through the former coal mining region of Eastern Ohio. The class visited The Wilds, which is established on a former strip mine, the Big Muskie dragline bucket, at one point the largest in the world, and the historic town of Shawnee, once at the epicenter of Ohio’s turn-of-the-20th-century mining boom.
