Mae Miller, President’s Postdoctoral Fellow (UC Berkeley) and current OSU Visiting Scholar, was our very first in-person speaker since March 2020. It was a hybrid talk with 9 present in person and another 27 attending remotely (Nov 19th, 2021).

Student News:

Two PhD candidates, Luyu Liu (Geog) and Jian Wang (Geog) were awarded Presidential Fellowships this fall. The Presidential Fellowship is the most prestigious award given by the Graduate School.

Congratulations to Alyssa Reynolds, M.S. Candidate (Atmospheric Sciences Program), for receiving the 2021 Rick Toracinta Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded biennially to a graduate student studying atmospheric science, broadly defined, at The Ohio State University. Alyssa's MS research project is entitled, Two Case Studies of Recent EF-4 Tornadoes in Ohio.

Alumni News: 

Deondre Smiles, who earned his PhD in Geography from The Ohio State University in 2020 and is currently Assistant Professor of Geography at the University of Victoria in British Columbia, is the guest editor for Belt Magazine‘s Indigenous Rust Belt project. This project is a series of stories that involve the Indigenous life, land, and communities of the greater Midwest region. To learn more, his story is featured on the Ohio Humanities website
