The Graduate Certificate of Geographic Information Science and Technology (GIST) at Ohio State provides introductory and in-depth training to practitioners and students from various professional and academic fields. By completing this certificate, you will develop methodological and technical skills in mapping, spatial analysis, remote sensing, and geospatial data analytics that will help you advance your professional career and enrich your research skills.
Curriculum
You are required to complete 12 credit hours (4 courses).
Required course:
- GEOG 5210: Fundamentals of GIS - 3 credit hours
Elective courses (choose no more than two from the following):
- GEOG 5101: GIST Professionalism and Ethics - 3 credit hours
- GEOG 5103: Intermediate Spatial Data Analysis - 3 credit hours (Prerequisite: 4103 or permission)
- GEOG 5200: Cartography and Map Design - 3 credit hours
- GEOG 5225: Geographic Applications of Remote Sensing - 3 credit hours
Specialty courses (choose at least one from the following):
- GEOG 5201: Geovisualization - 3 credit hours (Prerequisite: 5200)
- GEOG 5212: Geospatial Databases for GIS - 3 credit hours
- GEOG 5222: GIS Algorithms and Programming - 3 credit hours
- GEOG 5223: Design and Implementation of GIS - 3 credit hours
- GEOG 5226: Spatial Simulation and Modeling in GIS - 3 credit hours
