Geography Blog entry for 11-6-20

This week's Geography blog post.

Faculty News:

Becky Mansfield published a paper "Deregulatory science: Chemical risk analysis in Trump’s EPA," in the Social Studies of Science. Analyzing how the Trump EPA approaches scientific risk analysis, the paper concludes that contesting deregulation by declaring it anti-science reflects an impasse, as deregulatory approaches also take the mantle of science. The alternative is to make explicit the interests shaping practices of regulatory science.

Steven Quiring has a new project funded by the National Science Foundation (Physical and Dynamic Meteorology program): “Improving Process-Level Understanding of Surface-Atmosphere Interactions Leading to Convection Initiation in the Central United States.“ This is a collaborative project with Trent Ford (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign).
