Chairman O'Kelly's News Brief
A really impressive set of news for this week:
The college held a celebration lunch for the 2017 Huber awardees. I was pleased to be there with Becky Mansfield, along with Kristi Williams (Sociology) and Sam Stout (Anthropology). Dean Jan Box-Steffensmeier presided over the lunch which was also attended by former Deans Joan Huber, Giff Weary, and Paul Beck.
Please join me in congratulating Clark Larsen Chair of the Department of Anthropology, who has been named Distinguished University Professor. He was surprised with the announcement by Provost McPheron at a Chair’s meeting on Tuesday.
Darla Munroe has be asked to join the Scientific Steering Committee of the Global Land Programme (GLP) for a three-year term beginning in June.
This Friday Harvey Miller will participate in a science outreach event at the STEAM Factory (400 Rich St.) This is part of the Franklinton Fridays art hop
Dan Sui is in Wageningen, the Netherlands, attending the 2017 AGILE (Association of Geospatial Information Laboratory of Europe) meeting. His keynote speech is on "Geo-information and the emerging precision public health: Towards a new synergy." Dan reports that the Dutch local hosts give everybody a bike in addition to the registration package!
Both Elisabeth Root and Bryan Mark are featured in the current issue of Ascent.
Nice to hear Emeritus Professor Hal Moellering on WOSU 89.7 on Wednesday morning offering some well-framed opinions on the Short North Market. This area is the subject of a proposed major redevelopment action.
