International Applicant Update

Department of Homeland Security’s new immigration rule to eliminate “duration of status.”  Just before the government’s scheduled implementation, a federal court issued a nationwide preliminary injunction blocking the rule from taking effect on September 15. As a result, the immigration regulations for F-1 students and J-1 exchange visitors remain unchanged while litigation continues.

You can read more about the policy change and its possible impact on international students at https://oia.osu.edu/international-students/immigration-information/duration-status-final-rule

The termination of ‘Duration of Status’ may affect international students considering admission to our five-year direct-entry PhD program, as the expected time to degree exceeds the four-year AUD. Prospective students should also be aware that the new AUD policy could affect students in our traditional post-master’s PhD program if they are unable to complete their degree requirements within the four-year admission period.
