Transfer Credit

Basic Information

The Geography Department will review transfer credit posted to an OSU student’s Transfer Credit Report.

Transfer credit review requests from current OSU students or newly admitted and accepted OSU students who are registered to attend New Student Orientation will be evaluated.

Prospective students or students considering application to OSU should refer to www.transferology.com to review how courses taken at other institutions may transfer to OSU.

Courses for Review

Transfer credit posted to an OSU student’s Transfer Credit Report as general geography credit (appears as “GEOG G000.##”) will be reviewed.

Courses that are designated as “Special Credit” on a Transfer Credit Report (appears as “GEOG S000.##) have been previously reviewed by the Department and will not be considered for a different course equivalent.

Courses designated for other subject areas must be submitted to those respective departments for evaluation.

Process for Review

If you are a current OSU student or a newly admitted and accepted OSU student who would like to have a course or courses evaluated for equivalency by the Geography Department, please complete the following steps.

  1. Once the Registrar’s Office has processed your transfer credits they will appear on your transfer credit report. Please review your transfer credit report carefully. If they were accepted as direct equivalents, you do not need to take any further action. If they were not accepted as direct equivalents they will appear as G000.## or S000.##.
  2. If G000.## courses are geography courses, they can be submitted for evaluation to the Geography Department.
  3. Transfer credit review requests are submitted to the Geography Department by submitting the following via email to Jocelyn Nevel at nevel.6@osu.edu
    • Email requesting the review, including the course(s) for review
    • Student’s transfer credit report
    • Complete syllabus for the course (include a lab syllabus for those courses with a lab component).  A course description is not an acceptable substitute for a syllabus.
  4. The outcome of the transfer credit review will be sent to the student via their OSU email.  Reviews typically take 2-3 weeks; however, it may be longer during certain weeks each term.

For evaluation of non-geography courses, please refer to the Departmental Credit Evaluator list. for instructions and contact within respective departments.

Pre-evaluation

If you are a current OSU student and you are thinking about taking a course at another institution you can have that course pre-evaluated.

Pre-evaluation review requests are submitted to the Geography Department by submitting the following via email to Jocelyn Nevel at Nevel.6@osu.edu

  • Email requesting the review, including the course(s) for review and potential OSU equivalency for which the course review is requested
  • Complete syllabus for the course (include a lab syllabus for those courses with a lab component).  A course description is not an acceptable substitute for a syllabus.

The outcome of the transfer credit review will be sent to the student via their OSU email.  Reviews typically take 2-3 weeks; however, it may be longer during certain weeks each term.

If you decide to take the course at another institution, you will need to resubmit the course for Transfer Credit Review once the credit has posted to your Transfer Credit Report for the equivalency to be applied to your academic record.
