National Weather Service is Hiring! (posted 12-19-17)

The Deputy Director for the NWS sent us the following:

I am excited to announce we are opening a new round of entry-level vacancy announcements on USAJOBS today. Combined with recent Western Region postings, we are advertising 74 Meteorology Intern and Hydrometeorology Technicians at 65 locations across the United States and its territories!

To spread the word about these vacancies, we’ll be supporting the announcement through social media and notices to our partners in the academic community. Please feel free to guide interested applicants to USAJOBS.GOV, using keywords “Meteorological Intern” to apply for these positions, which are open December 15 through December 29.

Filling all the vacancies our appropriated budgets will allow has been an ongoing focus of NWS management. We have worked closely with WFMO and YCRI to accelerate the posting, selection and onboarding for NWS hires by as much as two months. We anticipate this “all hands on deck” effort to bring more folks into NWS will have very positive results!

This is just the beginning! This announcement will be followed in the next few weeks by a nationwide Journey Forecaster announcement for up to 40 mid-level staff at locations across the country. After this we plan on posting another set of Met Intern announcements in the Spring.

While our work is just beginning, these are positive, tangible efforts to bring new employees into the Weather Service. Please help us share the word with your colleagues and friends.
