Graduate Curriculum: GIS and Spatial Analysis

The GIS and Spatial Analysis track offers graduate students the opportunity to earn a Master's degree and/or a Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Geography. Requirements for each student in the track are outlined below. Please be aware that requirements are subject to change. Graduate students also should consult their advisor and the Department of Geography Graduate Handbook to ensure the appropriate requirements are met. In addition to the requirements, the seminar titles are subject to change. However, the assigned course number will remain the same.

General Admission Requirements

Students admitted to the GIS and Spatial Analysis graduate program should fulfill the following general requirements:

College level calculus - Those students who do not fulfill this requirement will be required to take a calculus sequence in the Department of Mathematics.
College level statistics - Those students who do not have the necessary statistics background will be required to take at least one statistics course in the Department of Statistics.

A Bachelor's Degree in Geography or a closely allied field is required for entrance into the Master's program. Additionally, a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree are needed for entrance into the PhD program. Master's Degree (M.A.)

Doctorate (Ph.D.)

The attached Graduate handbook, directions for Post-Master's students in the Department of Geography. Current Graduate Students should work with their advisor on forming a curriculum that satisfies the degree requirements, while meeting their individual needs.

Graduate Certificate of Geographic Information Science and Technology

This graduate certificate program provides students in various disciplines with training in geographic information science and technology (GIS&T). By completing this program, students will develop their methodological and technical skills in mapping, spatial analysis, remote sensing, and geospatial data analytics that will help them advance their research and career.
